What ever happened to that horse?

In an apparent suicide, Sallie Gardner, who was best known as the galloping horse in Eadweard Muybridge's groundbreaking stop-motion photo sequence, was found dead yesterday. A suicide note left in her stable expressed her frustration at having never become a household name.

"I was the star of the first motion picture ever made, plus I shattered the myth that horses always have one leg on the ground when they run," the note read. "You'd think that would get me some kind of foot in the door. I mean s--t, even just a bit part on Yes Dear - whatever."

Instead, Sallie was continuously passed over for roles, relegated to the realm of dusty photography textbooks, her name known only to annoying art school wonks. Meanwhile she had to sit by as the public gushed over the likes of more charmed horses such as Seabiscuit, Mr. Ed and Gumby sidekick Pokey.
