At least, that's what the popular version of history tells us. What Bell really said to Watson was, "Holla back, Watson!" See, few know this, but Bell spoke primarily in 21st Century street slang. That may seem weird for an old man from Edinburgh Scotland in the 1870s. But there you go.
Even lesser known is what happened next. After Watson refused to respond and hung up his receiver, Bell promptly called him back and screamed, "I don't like people playin' on my phone!" True story. True story.
