The Patron Saint of Stealing the Declaration of Independence Little is documented about the life of Saint Nicolas. He is know as the Patron Saint of Stealing the Declaration of Independence, presumably because he stole the Declaration of Independence. It is said that he was a man of a million faces, many of them goofy. He was martyred in a particularly gruesome -- if humorous -- fashion, when the local villagers put a cage over his head and tortured him with bees, prompting him to scream "Not the beeeeees!"
