So why put a bear on a bike?
More than 150 years after it was first created, California's storied "Bear Flag" is undergoing some changes.
"The bear had a great run, but we wanted something that symbolized the outdoor lifestyle that our state is known for," said California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. "So we put the bear on a bicycle."
Schwarzenegger also pointed out that the new bear isn't exactly sober. "That's no accident – he's a little bit tipsy," he said. "That's a nod to our state's unparalleled abundance of wineries."
California is also considering a ballot initiative in November on whether to change the official state flower from the California Poppy to the Humboldt Sticky Icky.
